AI Use Policy

1. General Principles

The Revista Científica del Amazonas acknowledges the growing impact of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in academic writing and peer review. However, the journal emphasizes the importance of responsible authorship, academic integrity, and transparency in the use of these technologies.

This policy establishes guidelines for the use of AI in content creation, manuscript writing, and the editorial process, ensuring compliance with ethical standards in scientific publishing.

2. Use of AI in Manuscript Writing

Authors may use AI tools (such as writing assistants, grammar checkers, and research support software) as long as their use is complementary and does not replace the researcher’s creativity, critical analysis, and originality.

The use of generative AI for the total or substantial creation of scientific content is not allowed, including manuscript writing, data interpretation, or hypothesis formulation.

Transparency: If AI has been used in manuscript writing, authors must explicitly declare it in a dedicated section, specifying the tool used and its purpose. Example of declaration:

"In the preparation of this manuscript, [AI tool name] was used for [specific tasks such as grammar correction or idea generation]. However, all content, analysis, and conclusions remain the responsibility of the authors."

3. Use of AI in Peer Review

Reviewers and editors may use AI tools to support plagiarism detection, style analysis, and reference verification, but the critical evaluation of articles must be conducted by human experts.

The use of AI to generate peer review reports is not permitted. Reviewers must ensure that their comments reflect an original and well-founded analysis.

4. Use of AI in Image and Graphic Generation

The use of AI to generate supporting images, graphics, and data visualizations is allowed, provided that:

  • Images are not misleadingly manipulated.
  • AI usage is disclosed in the visual production.
  • The originality and accuracy of graphical representations are ensured.

5. Responsibility and Authorship

AI tools cannot be considered authors of an article. Authorship in the Revista Científica del Amazonas must correspond to human researchers who have made significant intellectual contributions.

Authors assume full responsibility for content generated with AI assistance, including potential errors, biases, or misinterpretations.

If any improper use of AI is detected (such as text generation without human supervision or data manipulation), the journal may reject the manuscript or take disciplinary measures in accordance with its editorial ethics policy.

6. Final Considerations

The Revista Científica del Amazonas reserves the right to update this policy as AI technologies and their implications in academic publishing evolve.

Authors and reviewers are encouraged to stay informed about the ethical use of AI in scientific research, following the guidelines of organizations such as COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), EASE (European Association of Science Editors) and Elsevier.
